About Michael

Michael joined Chambers having completed his pupillage with Mr. Ambrose Ho S.C., Mr. Alan Ng, Ms. Elaine Liu (now Her Honour Judge Liu), and Mr. Randy Shek. Prior to commencing pupillage, Michael served as marshall for the Honourable Madam Justice Toh and the Honourable Mr. Justice Godfrey Lam (now the Honourable Mr. Justice Lam, JA).

Michael obtained his LLB from The Chinese University of Hong Kong with first class honours, placing first in class for Jurisprudence & Ethics. Supported by the HKSES Scholarship, he went on to obtain his LLM from Leiden University, graduating cum laude.

Michael was an avid mooter during his academic studies and has represented his university in over ten international moots. For three consecutive years, he placed amongst the top-three oralists for the Jessup regional rounds, and he was subsequently part of the 2nd Best Prosecution Team of the ICC moot. He was the memorial and/or oral rounds judge of several international moots.

Michael is developing a predominantly criminal practice and accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers’ work. He is capable of undertaking work in English and Cantonese and is proficient in Mandarin.

Appeal

SoJ v. Tong Kin Pong CAAR 13/2022: represented the Respondent in resisting the SoJ’s application for review arising from sentencing for riot and wounding with intent (led by Mr. David Boyton, with Mr. Samuelson Choi)..

Trial and Mitigation

HKSAR v. Mok Ying Kit DCCC 546/2021: represented the Defendant in a trial for charges of wounding with intent and AOABH. Defendant’s confession ruled inadmissible (led by Mr. David Boyton and Mr. Armond Chan).
 
HKSAR v. Hasan Milon HCCC 252/2021: represented the Defendant in a jury trial for a charge of trafficking in dangerous drugs (led by Ms. Elizabeth Herbert).
 
HKSAR v. Lee Yuen Chun KCS 16145/2021: represented the Defendant in a trial for a charge of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm (led by Mr. David Boyton during trial, sole advocate for mitigation).
 
HKSAR v. Lee Wai Leung WKCC 407/2023: represented the Defendant in plea and sentence for a charge of trafficking in dangerous drugs, Defendant received a suspended sentence (led by Mr. David Boyton).
 
HKSAR v. Chan Chun Ho KCCC 2408/2020: represented the Defendant in plea and sentence for charges of common assault and trafficking in dangerous drugs (as sole advocate).
 
HKSAR v. Modern World Transportation Limited WKMP 1367/2022: represented the Claimant in resisting the HKSAR’s forfeiture application pursuant to s.28 of the Import and Export Ordinance (as sole advocate).
 
HKSAR v. Wu Jinxia TMCC 2234/2022: represented the Defendant in a trial for charges of managing a gambling establishment and s.9 of the Prevention and Control of Disease (Requirements and Directions) (Business and Premises) Regulation (as sole advocate).
 
HKSAR v. Lee Ho Yin WKCC 3413/2022: represented the Defendant in a trial for charges of wounding and AOABH. Defendant’s confession ruled inadmissible and was ultimately acquitted (as sole advocate).
